Who: Moms, dads and their kids
When: 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays for 1 hour
Cost: $65 per class
Instructor: Kemila Velan, RYT
About the Class
Kemila makes yoga fun and playful for children as they bond with their parents in an hour-long class based on the YogaKids program, which treats yoga as a medium for learning. Anatomy, music, visual art, ecology, math and language become practical, useful subjects to children as they apply them through 50 different yoga poses.
From “S is for Snake” pose to “Talking Turtle” pose, children and parents will learn creative techniques on how to calm down when they’re hyper, or boost energy when they’re tired.
In a society that places titanic emphasis on appearance, the greatest benefit of yoga for kids is body confidence. Studies have shown that athletes and dancers tend to have higher self-esteem, however, not all of us are blessed with the coordination to dunk a hoop through a basket or stand on the tip of our tippy big toe.
Yoga cleans the slate for all kids, no matter their weight, shape, color, coordination skills, or talent.
