Like Columbus “discovered” the lands we now call Latin America, last week, during the launch of the Latinas in Tech Central Florida, I “discovered” that TikTok is bursting with views of #LatinasinTech.
Yes. I over-SEO’d that opening graf. But it’s true. The dream of Dr. Katka Nutmeg, fictional founder of TheFemmebots.com, the FACTory that manufactures female robots for tech jobs, is alive on TikTok.
Val.Java is a Latina in Tech on TikTok
Check out these other Latinas on TikTok
Who knew?? Oh wait, looks like NBC News already “discovered” this trend back in 2022…
- Underrepresented in tech, Latinas are using TikTok to help others navigate the industry
- And Spectrum News just came out with this article in October 2023: How Latinas are building community and celebrating culture on TikTok
But did YOU know there are 28 million views of Latinas in Tech on TikTok?
My IP is specifically GenX Model Rican and I’ve been trying to connect with more women working in tech since 1999 when I was a writer/producer/coder at Latino.com. I didn’t know LatinasinTech.org started in 2014, but it seems we are all still trying to find each other without knowing the market is bursting!!!
I’d also like to add that this “discovery” contradicts the belief I had only two months ago when I used SEO tools to search for Latinas working in tech, who I thought were Super Invisible on the Interwebz…so I teamed up with LatinasinData.com and pitched a panel to 2024 SXSW EDU…we made the shortlist, which was cool, but ultimately we didn’t make the cut.
OK, so what now? All the things “Latina in Tech” are right in front of us ALL AT THE SAME TIME on our various devices and the language all Latinas in Tech speak is alive and well on TikTok. I’m so freaking EXCITED!! Sooo….
