I am officially converting fiction into reality this week.
The Multimedia Production Company I have been writing about for the last 3 years is materializing before my very eyes.
It is a great birthday gift to myself.
And in the next 2 weeks I will find out if I won a Fellowship that will pay the tuition for the first year.
If I get it, then everything I have saved over the summer can be used toward other investments, namely, Brazil. My future is there.
I just told a colleague that she won’t start seriously making preparations for living abroad until she buys a ticket.
I can take my own advice.
And she told me she has started researching necessary visas for the various countries she intends on visiting.
I didn’t even think about that. Just found out US Citizens need a visa to enter Brazil.
This will cost about $160.
I found a flight for $936 this afternoon but just noticed the prices changed so I will check back again later this week.
Part of orientation is shifting my mind from that of a full-paying consumer to a student who gets discounts. A friend reminded me yesterday to look into STA Travel. Just checked and their prices are higher than Kayak’s, but my friend said I am better off talking to an actual human being to book the trip. Imagine that! There are probably so many things I can learn from a person who knows the travel agency rather than trying to beat the online booking system.
Just searched Kayak again and the $936 flight is available again. Should I buy it? There will be an 8-hour layover on the way back. Perhaps I can use this as time to write about everything that transpired in Brazil. And after a Google search, it looks like there is plenty I can do in Panama City.
Lots to upload at orientation.
I met my 2 professors today: Larry Engel and John Douglass
